Why we love Nate: We met Nate at the FNCE conference, and immediately knew that he was a Health Warrior. While not only believing that food should be good for you, and not just better for you, Nate knows what it takes to fuel athletes. Health Warrior’s roots are tied to active lifestyles so we hit it off right away! Nate is enthusiastic, up for a challenge, and ready to help Health Warrior build a better society through superfoods.
What is your health story?
I got into the field of health, nutrition, and wellness to breakdown the status quo that living a healthy lifestyle requires this extreme approach to “dieting” and subjecting yourself to culinary misery to achieve the results you want. I fell victim to this many years ago. I fell victim to believing information that was not backed by science. I fell victim to believing I HAD to eat bland grilled chicken, steamed broccoli and sweet potato everyday of my life in order to lean out. I fell victim to believing I had to destroy my relationship with food in order to be lean and “healthy.” I had enough! I knew what I was doing was ridiculous, dangerous, and believed there was a better way. That was one of many motivators to pursue the truth of nutritional science and how health is impacted by the foods we eat. I wanted to be part of a movement that helps people realize you no longer have to be extreme to achieve the results you seek. I wanted to show people through education, counseling, and cooking that eating healthy can look and taste pretty damn good.
How did you choose to become a performance dietitian?
My love for sports is what actually drove me to be a performance dietitian. Though we are not all elite athletes, we are the athletes of our own life. Like athletes, we all have performance standards that need to be met. Whether its your job, daily workouts, as a student, as a partner, or as a parent, we all have to perform on a daily basis. Nutrition plays a key role in your success at performing these life duties.
What is your favorite Health Warrior Bar?
Hands down the Dark Chocolate Pumpkin Seed Bar. I mean, c’mon, dark chocolate. That’s a no brainer.
When do you find yourself reaching for one?
This is definitely my go-to as a mid morning snack. I either eat the bar on its own or I will crumble it up and put it on top of some vanilla greek yogurt. Perfect snack in my eyes.
What’s your biggest healthy eating tip?
If a diet calls for excluding a food group, RUN AWAY! Run far, far away. All food groups have their purpose and can be implemented into one’s diet to achieve health goals.
Who do you look for for motivation?
Honestly, myself. I personally believe that motivation has to come from within. I can watch hype videos and watch others to get motivated but at the end of the day, when all that is gone, I have to be the one to motivate myself to accomplish what I need to accomplish.
What is your go-to quick meal?
I’m Latin so rice with beans and a fried egg on top. That is what I was raised on as a quick meal. Now I throw in some spinach or chase my meal with a colorful salad. But, I stick to my roots.
When do you feel most like a warrior?
There is something about waking up and accomplishing things before the rest of the world opens their eyes. That just makes me want to go outside and give the world my best warrior howl!
What’s the weirdest thing about you?
I’ve watched The Office (US version) at least 3-4 times through and can recite various random lines.
What’s the coolest thing about you?
My ability to adapt to any situation, good or bad. This is extremely helpful being a dietitian.
What’s in your Netflix queue?
At this moment, I am switching between Narcos and The Punisher. I am a huge Jim Carrey fan so Jim & Andy was one of my recent favorites. But my all time go-to on Netflix has to be The Office.

What are your goals for the next year?
Fitness goal- run my first marathon
Personal goal- Travel to at least 3 new places.
Professional goal- Continue to grow as a dietitian and business owner. This is more of an ongoing goal every year.

Jim Carey because of my goofy personality
Mario Lopez because we kind of look alike. At least that is what I am told.
Simba (Lion King) for my ability to always question the unknown.
If you could give one piece of advice for anyone aiming to be more healthy, what would it be?
Strive to be 1% better than you were yesterday.
